Skills Centre, Harrow, UK

Overview

Harrow Skills Centre unveiled a dramatic courtyard feature.  The specially designed structure was the finishing touch to a business unit redevelopment into a multi-puppose training centre teaching construction skills.

The Wilson Partnership proposed a canopy design to provide all-weather protection over the outdoor teaching area. Fabric Architecture developed the concept using connection points fixed to the existing building and steel masts anchored to concrete foundations.  Additional fabric panels were inserted to create a weather seal over doorways.

Funded by Harrow Council and the London West Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Harrow Skills Centre opened its doors offering practical training to 14 to 19 year olds in a range of subjects including construction, electronics, bricklaying, manufacturing and design and prototyping in engineering.
