Lord Grey School, Bletchley, UK

Overview

Lord Grey School approached Fabric Architecture looking for tensile fabric structures that would offer multi-purpose functionality while being cost effective, covering  a vast courtyard expansion.

The brief was to transform the existing courtyard into an outdoor dining area, covered walkway, outdoor classroom, focal point/feature and a covered outdoor play area for the hundreds of students.  Three structures were chosen from Fabric Architecture’s Signature Structure range of pre-fabricated structures: The Pagoda Evolution and 2no Triple Conics.

Signature structures are easily specified for rapid installation and using school colours, green steelwork with white canopies, they look very bespoke and integrated with the existing building.  The 100 m2 Pagoda Evolution created the wow factor and coverage Lord Grey was after. While the long Triple Conics, with their three central masts, have been great for moving students throughout the space with ease. Each Triple Conic measures 18m x 7m and is beautiful and elegant in design.

Both the Triple Conic and the Pagoda Evolution structures have given students and faculty a place to meet/ greet/eat and move the lessons and play space to the outdoors. Everyone seems very pleased with the end result – especially with the colour matched green steelwork.
